What’s East-West?
East-West has multiple meanings in Chinese: 1, a thing ( or a person), usually in derogatory sense, for example, “what’s that thing over there?” 2, directions or locations. For the 2nd meaning, how do we define East or West? Based on geography or anthropology or political ideology? How has the meaning and association changed since the 90s of last century? From what perspective do we consider East as West or West as East? Do we focus on similarities or differences when reading poetry from East/West? What are the interesting features in the writings of younger generation’s?
