几十年来,美国诗人养成了一种习惯,靠买一本难看的“新世界写作选”去看加纳诗人最近在写什么。 他们从阿赫玛托娃那里偷一句,从聂鲁达那里抢一句,就突然变成了来自维也纳、圣彼得堡、柏林、君士坦丁堡的居民,对“亚马逊和巴拉圭”十分了解。除了能启发出一些诗以外,这样一头扎进去拥抱一个抽象的“世界文学”,没有多大意义。一整个流派的美国诗人都在精心打磨诗句,听起来好像是从一个异国传统翻译过来的,套着陈词滥调,展出人造翻译腔调,仿佛这种破旧而透明的袈裟,可以给他们的诗句增加重量或紧迫感。

What’s East-West?

East-West has multiple meanings in Chinese: 1, a thing ( or a person), usually in derogatory sense, for example, “what’s that thing over there?” 2, directions or locations. For the 2nd meaning, how do we define East or West? Based on geography or anthropology or political ideology? How has the meaning and association changed since the 90s of last century? From what perspective do we consider East as West or West as East? Do we focus on similarities or differences when reading poetry from East/West? What are the interesting features in the writings of younger generation’s?
