A residence program based in the suburb of Beijing (within Beijing Shangyuan Art Scene) for aspiring poets, writers, and translators —
starts in 2014
1-2 months each session, can extend to 6-7 months (April to October).
Residence program opens April 10 to Oct 30 of each year, and is closed in the winter time.
Applications will be accepted this winter. Please send a detailed bio, 5-10 pages of sample work and one reference to poetryeastwest@gmail.com by Dec 20, so we can forward the package to Beijing on time. (Sample writings can be in any language but should be accompanied with English translation if it’s not in Chinese or English)
Knowledge of Chinese is not required, but will be helpful if you wish to explore Beijing.
Need to be open-minded and independent. Most writers and artists in that village speak Chinese only, so you will be on your own most of the time but you can learn some Chinese from the participating poets.

You fly there on your own. A free studio with kitchen and restroom/shower is offered to every resident fellow accepted.
